This is a true story: In 1847 the great Mr. Charles Dickens invited the equally great Mr. Hans Christian Andersen to come and stay with him "anytime". A full TEN YEARS passes before Mr. Andersen, known for his spontaneity, suddenly turned up in Mr. Dickens's doorstep without warning and with very poor grasp of the English language. What ensued was a whole string of monumental gaffs, misunderstandings and odd adventures with a cast of colourful characters.
Messrs Barry McKenna & Peter Holst-Beck ...our very own resident playwrights and wordsmiths have carefully crafted and curated the story into an entirely NEW DRAMA in one act of the most intense interest for one and all to regard. It is called THE VISIT.
THE VISIT will be presented upon the stage of Krudttønden Theater for the first time anywhere in the world in the springtime of the year 2020...
Directed by: Barry McKenna
Mr. H.C. Andersen: Peter Holst-Beck
Mr. Charles Dickens: Ian Burns
All other parts: Andrew Jeffers
Andersen coined the phrase "To travel is to live". Dickens might have been inspired by this visit to write his famous line "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times".
